Meet Meghan
Native to Oconee County, I was raised on my family’s beef cattle farm, Tokeena Angus, in the Fairplay area of Oconee County. I gained a strong work-ethic and values through a “hands-on” education that farm-life teaches young people. After graduating Walhalla High School, I earned my Associates Degree from Tri-County Technical College in the medical field before earning a Bachelors’ and Masters’ degree in Agricultural Education. In 2007, I began my teaching career at Aiken High School where I taught Agricultural Education and served as the FFA Advisor for 6 years.
In 2014, I earned my Doctorate Degree in Agricultural and Extension Education from NC State University where I completed dissertation research on teacher retention and gained insight into why teachers leave the classroom.
Upon earning my Ph.D., I worked as the Assistant 4-H Director and Youth Livestock Program Coordinator for SC 4-H at Clemson University, managing many 4-H youth projects statewide.
In 2017, I entered a corporate career as the Business Development Director for a major construction company in the mid-state. This experience taught me the procedures required of a school district when considering a large scale capital project, and gave me insight into the procurement processes that we must adhere to while building or renovating a school.
Currently, I own my own business, a property management firm in Oconee County.
My husband, Jared and I live in Mountain Rest and with our 2 dogs, Smurf and Molly. In my spare time, you can find me serving our community, working cattle on the farm, paddle boarding the lake and spending time with friends and family.
Core Values & Principles
I am a Christian and believer in Jesus Christ, first and foremost. Secondly, I am an American. Third, I am a Conservative American and I stand firmly on the United States Constitution. Lastly, I am a proud Walhalla High School Alumnus (Go Razorbacks)!
I am an advocate of public education and the opportunities we have to shape the next generation. I support a parents’ right to choose the best route for their child’s education, whether that is school choice or the alternative home-school and private education pathways.
In 2020, I made a promise that I will always be available to your questions or concerns. I have kept that promise even when hard conversations were necessary. My philosophy for service as a school board member is grounded in integrity, respect, professionalism and accountability.
I appreciate the continued engagement with parents and teachers, for you have an incredible impact on our students’ educational experience. I will continue to work to ensure that every teacher and student has the resources and support they need to succeed.
