Cell phones banned in Classrooms
The South Carolina Department of Education will be implementing a statewide policy banning cell phones and other personal electronic devices in classrooms. This piece of legislation comes out of the Stateβs FY 2024-25 Budget that says in order for school districts to receive state funds, they will be implementing this new policy which was adopted by the State Board of Education. While cell phones have undeniably become an integral part of our life, their place in the classroom should be reconsidered. The evidence overwhelmingly suggests that banning cell phones can lead to improved academic performance, enhanced social skills and a safer, more focused learning environment.
There are many reasons to support the restriction of cell phone use during school hours so we can ensure that classrooms remain conducive to learning and personal growth.
Distraction and reduced focus on learning
Promote critical thinking and academic integrity in coursework
Encourage personal communication and social skills
Reduce bullying and social media threats
Improved classroom performance and student engagement
These are the details you need to know:
1- This policy will take effect in January 2025 when students return to school for 2nd semester.
2- Our School Board will be implementing our District policy which will include the return of the devices to the appropriate owner, whether that be a parent, grand-parent or guardian.
Now is the time to start this conversation around your household so this is not a surprise to you or your child come January. Thank you to the parents, teachers and community for all you do to support our classrooms.
Victory for Common Sense
The 11th Circuit has ruled in favor of common sense, protecting the rights of women and girls in bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports! This ruling blocks the Biden-Harris Administration from enforcing their radical redefinition of biological sex in South Carolina.
This is a victory for our students and families, ensuring their safety and dignity. We must continue to stand strong, protecting our children and preserving the values that matter most. Parents have the right to protect their children, and our communities have the right to shape policies that reflect our shared beliefs.
Today, we celebrate a significant win in the fight for common sense and justice. Let's remain vigilant as we work together to protect the most vulnerable in our society. This fight isn't over, but together, we can make a difference!
Cover Our Campus In Prayer
After the Uvalde, Texas school shooting, it became my mission to bring our community together in prayer on our school campuses to pray specifically for the safety of our children, teachers and staff. In August of 2022, we held our very first Cover Our Campus event that brought hundreds of people around Oconee County to pray for our schools. Since then, more and more individuals and church organizations have joined our local movement by praying in towns and gathering around businesses on the Main Streets of our community.
The 3rd Annual Cover Our Campus in Prayer event will be held:
π July 28, 2024
π Location: All school campuses in Oconee County (you can pick the school campus of your choice to attend)
π°οΈ Time: 8:00 PM
Let's unite in prayer for the safety of our students and educators as we enter the 2024/2025 school year. Together, we can make a difference.
