HCTC students make Gavel for Senate President, Thomas Alexander
Students at the Hamilton Career and Technology Center demonstrated their exceptional craftsmanship and creativity by designing and producing a custom gavel for South Carolina Senate President, Thomas Alexander to use while presiding over Legislative session in Columbia, SC. This unique project was a collaborative effort that showcased the students’ precision and technical skills learned in the Machine Tool class led by Mr. Charles Godwin. Using state of the art tools and techniques, Mr. Godwin taught the students how to craft the gavel with attention to detail, ensuring it reflected the significance and professionalism of its intended purpose.
Mr. Godwin along with Mr. Carson Lecroy made the special presentation to the Senator at the November 2024 School Board Meeting. Senate President Alexander expressed his gratitude for the thoughtful and meticulously created gift, highlighting the value of Career and Technical Education in preparing students for successful futures.
This project is a testament to the incredible potential of the Hamilton Career Center students and the strong connection between education and community leadership. Great job to the students, Mr. Godwin and thank you to Mr. Lecroy for leading our District in prioritizing Career and Technical Education in Oconee County.
